In recent years, several new EU directives and regulations on sustainability — such as the EU Taxonomy, SFDR, and CSRD — have come into force. These frameworks will have a direct impact on large* and listed** companies, as well as financial institutions within the EU.

Smaller companies will also be affected as a result of increasing demands for sustainability performance, particularly from banks and investors seeking to expand the share of green loans within their portfolios.

*Large companies will be subject to CSRD starting in 2025 and are defined, according to the latest update of the Accounting Directive, as companies meeting at least two of the following criteria: more than 250 employees, net turnover exceeding EUR 50 million, or a balance sheet total exceeding EUR 25 million.

**Small and medium-sized listed companies will be subject to CSRD starting in 2026 and are defined, according to the latest update of the Accounting Directive, as companies meeting at least two of the following criteria: more than 10 employees, net turnover exceeding EUR 900,000, or a balance sheet total exceeding EUR 450,000.
